Army service pays off for new Soldiers
Basic Combat Training, also known as “boot camp,” is the process in transforming civilian volunteers into Soldiers. Over 10 weeks, trainees will go through four phases that cover Army core values, physical training, first aid, hand grenades, obstacle course, basic rifle marksmanship, navigation, and three separate field exercises. Basic training produces Soldiers that are disciplined, resilient, physically fit and competent in their basic skills who can successfully contribute as members of a team when they arrive at their first unit of assignment. NAMRU San Antonio spotlights Dr. Dao Ho during Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month
Dr. Dao Ho, a research immunologist, assigned to the Combat Casualty Care and Operational Medicine Directorate at Naval Medical Research Unit San Antonio at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston, was spotlighted during Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, which acknowledges the contributions of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders in defending America's freedom. Ho, a native of Qui Nhon, Vietnam, leads a team of researchers assigned to the Cellular and Immune Based Adjuncts for Casualty Care Department which develops and evaluates therapies to mitigate adverse responses following injury. Her department conducts a diverse range of research, development, test and evaluation from investigations of potential pain management therapeutics, resuscitative fluid adjunct drug assessments, real-world and laboratory evaluations of devices for the treatment of penetrating injuries, and stem cell and immune based therapeutics intended to improve warfighter outcomes and survival.
